Characteristics/Adaptations
  • All Bay Scallops have both male and female organs that are capable of releasing either sperm or eggs into the water. This means that there is more reproductive success among organisms.

  • They have many “eyes” located around the edge of their shells which allow them to detect predators. Each eye has a lens, retina, cornea, and optic nerve to allow the organism to see movement and shadows.

  • Scallops can move rapidly by clapping their shells together. This causes water to be ejected from the cavity.
